Madden 19: Minnesota Vikings Offense Ratings

The Minnesota Vikings offense this year looks to have an upgrade with a new QB and updated ratings to returning players to reflect their success in 2017.  To say I’m looking forward to it is an understatement.

Quarterback

The Vikings haven’t had a franchise QB since maybe the Daunte Culpepper days in the early 2000s.  That’s only IF you can call him a franchise QB…  Hopefully we picked one up with Kirk Cousins, because we damn well are paying him like one.

Madden 2018: Sam Bradford – 83; Teddy Bridgewater – 79; Case Keenum – 73; Taylor Heinicke – 58
Average: 73.25

Thanks a lot Heinicke.  Really bringing down the average.  I’d say Keenum played a little above his 73 rating (he’s an 81 in Madden 19 with the Broncos)

Madden 2019: Kirk Cousins – 82; Trevor Siemian – 71; Kyle Sloter – 64
Average: 72.33

Interesting to point out that there are three completely new QBs on the roster.  I’d like to think that Sloter is better than his 64 average, with the thinking that the Vikings were doing anything to keep him.

Running Backs

Madden 2018: Latavius Murray – 84; Jerick McKinnon – 80; Dalvin Cook – 80; Bishop Sankey – 72
Average: 79.00

Sankey didn’t even make it to the active roster I’m pretty sure.  And Dalvin Cook’s rating skyrocketed during his 4-game stretch to start the season.

Madden 2019: Dalvin Cook – 85; Latavius Murray – 82; CJ Ham – 69 (listed as a FB); Mack Brown – 64; Roc Thomas – 64
Average: 72.8

Interesting here, as the Vikings running backs are probably better with Cook being the (almost) every down back and Murray coming in as a reserve role.  But, I know next to nothing about the two newcomers on the squad, other than Roc Thomas is a rookie.

Wide Receivers

Madden 2018: Stefon Diggs – 86; Adam Thielen – 81; Michael Floyd – 75; Laquon Treadwell – 73; Jarius Wright – 73; Rodney Adams – 69; Stacy Coley – 66; Moritz Böhringer – 62; RJ Shelton – 61
Average: 71.78

I just remember boosting Böhringer until he was a stud and running with Diggs, Thielen, and Böhringer combo.  Deadly.

Madden 2019: Sefon Diggs – 90; Adam Thielen – 88; Kendall Wright – 78, Laquon Treadwell – 73; Tavarres King – 71; Stacy Coley – 67; Brandon Zylstra – 63; Chad Beebe – 62
Average: 74.00

A major improvement here, only because Diggs/Thielen combo proved to be actually a deadly pairing in 2017.  Rumor has it that Zylstra (CFL’s leading receiver in 2017, and All-Star) has been doing great things in camp.  Wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the field as the 4th receiver this season ahead of Treadwell.

Tight Ends

Madden 2018: Kyle Rudolph – 85; Bucky Hodges – 71; David Morgan II – 67; Kyle Carter – 57
Average: 70.00

2017 was Kyle Rudolph >>>>> everyone else.  Loved seeing the Sampson hair of David Morgan II every time he caught a ball.

Madden 2019: Kyle Rudolph – 86; David Morgan II – 73; Tyler Conklin – 68; Blake Bell – 62; Kevin McDermott – 51
Average: 68.00     (Average minus Kevin McDermott: 72.25)

Kevin McDermott is technically the long snapper on the team, but, is classified as a tight end in Madden 19.  Take him away from the ratings, and they get significantly better.  Lots of three tight end sets coming this year with Morgan II and the rookie Conklin.

Tackles

Madden 2018: Mike Remmers – 73; Riley Reiff – 71; TJ Clemmings – 68; Jeremiah Sirles – 68; Aviante Collins – 65; Rashod Hill – 64
Average: 68.17

I have no idea who Aviante Collins is, must not have made the active roster during the regular season.  The rest of the ratings seem accurate… Although some players were backups at guard and tackle.

Madden 2019: (LT) Riley Reiff – 77, (RT) Mike Remmers – 76; (LT) Brian O’Neill – 72; (RT) Aviante Collins – 66; (LT) Rashod Hill – 66; (RT) Storm Norton – 63; (LT) Dieugot Joseph – 60
Average: 68.57

A big improvement from the starters after an over-productive 2017 campaign.  I will be interested in the rookie O’Neill and where he places out.  Also, Collins is back, apparently he is a real person.

Guards

Madden 2018: Joe Berger – 83; Alex Boone – 79; Willie Beavers – 69; Danny Isidora – 68; Austin Shepherd – 63; Zac Kerin – 62
Average: 70.67

I’m pretty sure Beavers was cut in the pre-season, and Alex Boon was released prior to the start of the season because he wouldn’t take a (deserved) pay cut.

Madden 2019: (LG) Nick Easton – 71; (RG) Tom Compton – 69, (RG) Danny Isidora – 68; (LG) Josh Andrews – 66; (LG) Colby Gossett – 66; (RG) Chris Gonzalez – 57
Average: 66.17

The retirement of Joe Berger is going to be felt in the interior of the line this season, as it reflects in the rating.

Centers

Madden 2018: Pat Elflein – 73; Nick Easton – 62
Average: 67.50

The battle for starting center happened in the pre-season, before Elflein won and Easton played guard for most of the regular season, where he is a starter in 2018.

Madden 2019: Pat Elflein – 75; Cornelius Edison – 60
Average: 67.50

Gotta love a guy named Cornelius.  I just wish he was a better player.
