Dec. 18, 2018 – Boca Raton Bowl Preview

Northern Illinois Huskies (8–5)
UAB Blazers (10–3)

FAU Stadium
Boca Raton, Florida
7:00 p.m.

Just the fact that UAB is in a bowl game is incredible. The coaching job that Bill Clark has done with the program is something else. Hired as coach in 2014, December 2, at the end of his first season, the school announced the elimination of the program immediately.

June 1, 2015, the school announced they were bringing it back, but, not until 2017. 8-5 record in 2017 (with an entirely new squad of players) and 10-3 here in 2018 with a conference championship in tow. This is the best and only real reason you need to watch this game. The story that ESPN will show pre-game will be phenomenal.

You have to root for UAB to cap off their wonderful story. Starting, Senior QB AJ Erdely (phenomenal mustache) injured at end of the season. Freshman backup Tyler Johnston might get the start. But look for RB Spencer Brown to lead the offense with his 1,500 yard season. I don’t even want to look at NIU because I need this story to end with a UAB victory.

UAB, 24-17
